I went trekking to Mt.Okuhotaka from 7/14 to 16.
Mt.Okuhotaka is the 3rd highest mountain in Japan. It is located near Kamikochi which is a famous tourist destination, and there is also a beautiful cirque on the middle.
Day 1
Kamikochi base (12:30) -> Yokoo Hut Campsite (14:45)
I left my home early in the morning and went to Kamikochi trekking base. I used Super Azusa Express and Alpico Bus to go to Kamikochi. After lunch at Kamikochi, I went to the Yokoo campsite along the Azusa River walking in the forest.
Day 2
Yokoo Campsite (4:30) -> Karasawa Campsite (6:45-7:00) -> Mt.Hotaka Hut (8:55~9:05) -> Mt.Okuhotaka (9:50-10:10) -> Mt.Karasawa (11:10) -> Mt.Hotaka Hut (10:45-50) -> Karasawa Campsite (13:05)
I left Yokoo before sunrise and headed for Karasawa. I walked on a gentle forest path for about 2 hours and got to the Karasawa campsite
At Karasawa, I could see magnificent view of mountains including Mt.Okuhotaka.
I set up tent in Karasawa Campsite and after that, I climbed Mt.Okuhotaka and Mt.Karasawa. On the Latter half of the route, there are rocky places where ladders and chains are installed. So I climbed carefully.
After 3 hours climbing from Karasawa Campsite, I finally reached the summit of Mt.Okuhotaka (3190m). From the summit, I could see Mt Fuji in the distance.
After leaving Mt.Okuhotaka, I climbed Mt.Karasawa and went back to Karasawa campsite. The scene of Karasawa cirque and summer sky I saw on the way to Karasawa was very beautiful.
On this evening, I could see countless stars and the Milky Way.
Day 3
Karasawa Campsite (5:45) -> Yokoo(7:30) -> Kamikochi base (9:45)
On the final day, after seeing the scenery of the mountains illuminated by a morning sun, I descended to Kamikochi through the same route as I came.
On the trail near Kamikochi, I met many monkeys.
I reached Kamikochi before 10 o’clock. From Kappa Bridge, a famous view spot, I could see Mt.Okuhotaka climbed yesterday.
